Rumor: T-Mobile Planning In-Store Displays to Lure Unlocked iPhone Users
TmoNews is reporting that fourth-place U.S. carrier T-Mobile may soon be installing in-store displays to show off unlocked iPhones running on their 3G network in an effort to sell against Apple's forthcoming handset.
"All the intel streaming in seems to point to a 'bring your own iPhone' demonstration in store, which lines up perfectly with what T-Mobile’s been saying all along for their refarmed network," the report reveals.
T-Mobile is actively working to expand its network for 4G LTE, and in the process shift spectrum to radio bands that are compatible with the iPhone. While there are already plenty of unlocked iPhones that have retreated to T-Mobile, they've had to contend with slower EDGE data speeds due to this incompatibility.
The report claims T-Mobile store managers were "asked to activate a new micro-SIM before the end of August," which could point to the company rolling out the new initiative sometime this month.
With Apple now ready to announce their next handset on September 12, it appears T-Mobile wants to fight back by enticing iPhone owners to bring their device to the magenta network, which recently relaunched an unlimited data plan again.

OnLive Folded Into New Company with Same Name, No Changes for End Users
The Verge is reporting that OnLive has come forward with an official statement regarding Friday's shake-up, which saw the entire staff fired during an all-hands meeting and questions began swirling about exactly what was going on.
As it turns out, the company's assets "were acquired by a newly formed company that will continue to operate under the OnLive name" on August 17, and the original company has restructured under what's known in California as an "Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors" -- not quite bankruptcy, but the end result is largely the same.
Venture capitalists Lauder Partners has been named as the first investor in the new OnLive, which is likely no coincidence since the firm also invested in the original version of OnLive back in 2009.
The new OnLive plans to rehire additional staff "upon closing additional funding," which is said to include up to 50 percent of the original group who got the axe on Friday, losing their stock options in the process.
For end users, there's better news: The company continues to operate without interruption, and OnLive promises new product to come.
"The OnLive Game and Desktop Services, all OnLive Devices and Apps, as well as all OnLive partnerships, are expected to continue without interruption and all customer purchases will remain intact; users are not expected to notice any change whatsoever," the company statement reads. "OnLive’s current initiatives will continue as well, with major announcements of new products and services planned in the coming weeks and months."
OnLive touts 2.5 million subscribers, with an "active base of over 1.5 million subscribers."

YouTube Insists Users Use Their Real Names
Choices offered by Google include:
My channel is for show or character. My channel is for a music artist of group. My channel is for a product, business or organization. My channel is well-known for other reasons. My channel is for personal use, but I cannot use my real name. I'm not sure, I'll decide later.Recently, YouTube has additionally launched its own face-blurring tool, a critical tool for protesters trying to protect themselves from government recrimination. This tool allows YouTube to never completely take away the option to comment anonymously, allowing people to have the best of both worlds.
Situations such as this, make balancing the needs for free speech and making sure the Web doesn’t consist of vile comments quite difficult. For YouTube, this is definitely a step in the right direction, keeping in mind that the true question is whether or not YouTube users will actually start using their real names to prevent the amount of vulgarity from expanding.
