Windows Tablets to Overtake Android, Thanks to Microsoft Office 365

- Alert) and Android devices’ market shares,” Chiou said in a recent article.

Chiou issued his forecasts for Microsoft tablets with Office 365, Android and iPad tablets in a Witsview report titled, “2010-2015 Market Shares of Tablet PC Operating Systems.” WitsView is a subsidiary of the Taiwan-based Trendforce. The predictions come from tracking shipments of PCs and LCD panels.

While Office 365 might give Windows 8-based tablets a competitive edge over Android tablets, it’s not expected to dent Apple’s position as the leader in the tablet segment. The iPad currently accounts for 62 percent of the tablet market share. And by 2015, Chiou expects that number to drop to 59 percent, while it will still remain the most popular tablet by far.

The Android tablet market share, however, will drop from 32 percent to 21 percent, while Windows-based tablets rise to 19 percent.

Report: Apple Victory Over Samsung Affecting Android Resale Prices

Could Apple's $1.05 billion victory over Samsung last week be causing Android users to jump ship? That appears to be the case for at least one reseller who has noted a 50 percent increase in customers dumping their Android smartphones since the verdict.

Marketwatch is reporting that online reseller Gazelle.com has noted a 50 increase in Android-powered Samsung handsets being traded in since Friday's courtroom victory for Apple, which is causing resale values of those handsets to fall accordingly.

Nokia Lumia 900 Beats iPhone, Android Devices for Outdoor Viewing

Despite the popularity of the iPhone, viewing its otherwise stellar display outdoors can often be a challenge, particularly in bright sunlight. Nokia has taken advantage of this weakness to market its new Lumia 900 Windows Phone handset, and now independent research appears to back up those claims.

DisplayMate Technologies Corporation has published the results of a new Bright Ambient Lighting Shoot-Out, which pits nine popular smartphones and tablets against each other to see which one performs best in the great outdoors.

Voxware Explains Decision to Ready its Voice Picking Management Application for Android

- Alert) Android operation system.

Though it may seem a little odd, for a speech technology company that serves a b-to-b niche to work with a consumer product like Android (News - Alert), Gerrard says it's all about mobile management.

“We’ve talked to companies who are looking towards the consumer mobile computing world for inspiration as mobility becomes more important – not just for workers, but for managers, too,” said Gerrard. “‘Mobile management’ is an up and coming concept that will free managers from staying at stationary points, allowing them to move within the DC without losing access to the functionality they need to manage the operation. Managers can have their eyes on the floor and still have the capacity for action at their fingertips,” he said.

Voxware says it's less about mobile phones and more about tablet computers. With its voice picking management application now engineered to work on a wide array of tablets, customers can now enable their supervisors to walk the floor while reviewing real time graphs, alerts, and activating executable options to change parts of the work flow. Instead of waiting for technology to catch up with business ideas, warehouses can leverage new capability towards greater efficiency.

“Warehouses may not have been the first place that iPads and Android devices were intended for,” writes Gerrard. “But in technology, you cannot restrict your inspiration to the same preconceived channels of development. We know innovation can come from anywhere, and we want to prepare now for the time when Android and tablets are going to play a bigger and bigger role in warehousing,” he said.

Tuesday Recap: Instagram on Android, Amazon on PS3, Faster Tagging on Shazam

The heavens parted for Android users today, and Instagram was delivered unto them. The news seems to have stirred up hateful emotions for some of the Google faithful who shun fraternizing with the more than 30 million iOS users already sharing photos with the service, but you can’t please everyone, right? Meanwhile, there are plenty of other tech-related stories for this fine day, so let’s launch right into all the news for Tuesday, April 3, 2012.

Instagram Makes the Leap to Android

That loud cheering you heard earlier today was probably Android users whooping it up over the news that Instagram has finally arrived on Google’s mobile platform. While the company is touting more than 30 million users from the iOS side of things, they’re sure to have quite a few more now that the Play Store has it on their virtual shelves. Personally we’ve always preferred Path to Instagram, but most everyone we know swears by the latter, so what do we know? If you haven’t downloaded it yet, hit the link to grab it from the Google Play Store right now.

Amazon Instant Video Now Available on PS3 -- But Where’s the iPad App?

On any given weekend evening while taking a break from writing the very news recap you’re reading each weekday, we can be found sprawled out on the couch enjoying streaming movie rentals from Amazon Instant Video. The e-tailer offers a different recent feature film for only 99 cents each Monday through Thursday, and a trio of $1.99 offerings for the weekend, so it’s a great way to get caught up for cheap. While we already have a Roku box and LG Blu-ray player both capable of doing this, what’s not to like about one more home theatre device being blessed with it? Today, Amazon Instant Video is finally available on the Sony PlayStation 3, where it joins the ranks of Netflix, Hulu Plus and Vudu for your hard-earned dollars, complete with more than 17,000 free movies and TV shows available with your Amazon Prime membership and another 120,000 paid titles available. While it might help us get a few more hours of use out of our PS3, what we’d really like is an Amazon Instant Video app for the iPad -- what do they expect us to do, own a Kindle Fire, too? (Oh yeah

Windows Phone Mobile App Downloads Improving but Still Lagging Behind iOS and Android

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

There is very little doubt that Apple and Android (News - Alert) have a firm hold on the mobile app market. That does not mean that Microsoft has given up trying to get their foot in the door. With the amount of mobile app downloads expected to hit 98 billion by 2015, there is a market that is just too enticing for the computer makers to ignore.

Of course, if Microsoft (News
