iPhone 5 Start Up Video Seems Legit
Over the past few months, Apple fans have spent plenty of time poring over allegedly leaked photos of iPhone 5 components. We've seen the longer body, the aluminum back, the NFC chip that may have been a total hoax. Regardless, Apple's September 12 event is only a week away now. But impending "official" announcements be damned, someone has posted what looks like a legitimate video of the new iPhone booting up.
Thanks to Chinese site Vgooo (via TNW), we can see the very first video of what appears to be -- ok, so it appears to be an iPhone 5 starting, then hitting an error screen. Not exactly the most exciting thing in the world.
"This device is not registered as part of the iPhone Developer Program. If you are a member of the program, please register your device," reads the alleged iPhone 5 screen in the video.
Boring error messages notwithstanding, the video keeps up with just about every rumor on hand over the past few months. The device is noticeably taller than the iPhone 4S, and the aluminum back is in place. More importantly, the 8-pin connecter appears on the iPhone's bottom panel.
Now, let's not forget that Chinese companies are quite experienced with fabricating fake electronics devices. That said, this would seem like an awfully elaborate scheme to fool Apple fanatics. Build the entire device to spec with currently running rumors, then find a way to simulate the iOS boot up and error message. Possible to replicate? Absolutely. Likely replicated? Probably not.
Either way, we'll know the real story next week. In the meantime, we'll keep an eye out for any more iPhone 5 units that mysteriously fall off a Foxconn truck.
Yeah, right.

Cisco's Cloud-Based Video Conferencing Changes Name
“We are performing a focused set of limited restructurings that will collectively impact approximately two percent of our global employee population,” the company said in an e-mailed statement.
Last year, Cisco started a plan to cut expenses by $1 billion in an effort to make the company leaner and more efficient, which included cutting about 10,000 jobs in July 2011. Last spring, the company said it planned to cut 15 percent of its workforce.
In its earnings statement in May, Cisco reported Q3 net sales of $11.6 billion, net income of $2.2 billion and non-GAAP net income of $2.6 billion.

How to Work with Video Effects
More often than not, when you work on a project, be it a home movie or a short film, you’ll add clips and slowly build your film. But you may not think of altering the colors and style of your work, relying on the natural lighting conditions you were presented with on the day.
But adding filters to your visuals can help set the mood just as strongly as applying a musical score. Combine the two together and you can influence your viewers, so they feel how you want them to feel--and isn’t that the whole point of filmmaking: to give those who watch your work an emotional journey? Without it, chances are they’ll engage less with your film.
But just because you can apply effects, doesn’t mean you should. Use them only when you feel such a visual change would enhance your story. If you just add a filter for the sake of it, you run the risk of degrading your film. But if you use the Dream filter for flashback sequences, for instance, it will make it easier to discern which sections are in the past and which are current.
>> iMovie'11 version 9.0.4 or later, a project in progress and/ or clips imported into an Event, a basic grasp of the interface.

TMCnet's HD Video Conferencing Week in Review
Kayvon Ghoreshi, TMCnet contributing writer, reported that about 15 percent of the owners plan on working remotely for almost a month and said a lot of it has to do with the industry. “The survey also showed that 23 percent of respondents have businesses that rely on telecommunications regardless of the season, and many prefer working remotely to avoid some of the hassles inherent in a normal office environment,” said Ghoreshi.
Glenn Bray, senior director of the Cloud Collaboration Applications Technology Group at Cisco, said these results show a new trend in business. “The results demonstrate the extent to which telephone and video conferencing have become ingrained in the work habits of small business owners, since nearly half of the survey respondents say traditional, in-person meetings are become less relevant,” said Bray. “It’s clear small business owners need to stay ‘connected’ to the office even during the summer vacation season, and so we’ve given them the tools to not only meet, but also easily and efficiently manage content relevant for those meetings wherever they happen to be.”
