On an Xserve (Early 2008) running Lion or Lion Server, the LOM interface may not be available on Ethernet.

As a workaround to re-enable the LOM interface, "warm reboot" the LOM after Lion has started and initialized its network ports. Execute this command:

sudo ipmitool bmc reset warm

Advanced: Create a launchd item as a workaround

You can use the following steps to create a launchd item that runs this command, so that you do not have to run the command manually each time you restart the Xserve.

Execute this command:
sudo nano "/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.resetbmc.plist"
