Eddy Cue Introduces Changes to iTunes, All-New Version Coming in October

If a new iPhone 5 and iOS 6 aren't enough to get you excited about Apple's media event in San Francisco on Wednesday, the company has even more in store with changes to iTunes and the iPod.

Following the introduction of the iPhone 5 with iOS 6, Apple CEO Tim Cook invited senior VP Eddy Cue to the stage to talk about iTunes, which the company is making some big changes to.

With the iTunes Store now available in 63 countries worldwide, Cue unveiled a new design for the iOS version of the store, which runs across all categories offered. Facebook "likes" are now integrated into every product offering, and users can preview songs while browsing -- all included with iOS 6 when it launches on September 19.

Cue notes that 200 million customers are now enjoying iTunes in the Cloud, which is why Apple today introduces a new version of iTunes coming in October, with a new edge-to-edge design that marks the first major departure from the classic design we all know and love.

New features include a drop down menu in the currently playing field, which allows users to see upcoming songs no matter where they are inside the app. A new mini-player design is also on deck, allowing users to manage playlists and upcoming songs. iCloud is now built right into iTunes, which offers a cleaner, easier to navigate look.

Unfortunately, we'll all have to wait a bit to see the new iTunes, which Cue announced as available in October.

iOS Apps: Feedly Launches New Version, Appoday Makes MotoHeroz Free

With so many iOS apps going into the App Store each and every day, it's easy to miss cool titles you might otherwise enjoy. So let's single out a couple selections, with a new Feedly for iOS landing today while MotoHeroz is Appoday's freebie for Tuesday.

Feedly has announced the availability of an updated app for the iPhone, iPad and Android which brings Google Reader RSS onto your device in a sleek, stylish way.

"With Feedly, users not only have control over the sources they add to their reader, but they can organize them into sections, assign layouts (magazine, mosaic, individual articles), and change fonts," the company notes in a press release. "In the same way that no two iTunes playlists are the same, no two feedlys are the same."

Integrated with Google Reader, Instapaper, Pocket, Twitter and Facebook, the new Feedly offers a magazine-grade experience with a clean typographic grid, beautiful fonts, large visuals and bold colors -- all for absolutely free in a slick universal app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Meanwhile, the folks at Appoday have scored a five-star app for its free offering on Tuesday with MotoHeroz, available in separate versions for the iPhone/iPod touch as well as an HD version for the iPad.

"MotoHeroz takes the fun, fast gameplay of a Trials style game, adds it to a frantic rally race, and delivers a fresh new kind of side-scrolling, platform racing game," Appoday explains. "Players race, chase, and rally their way through a brightly colored world, competing against their friends for the fastest times, entering daily races, and hunting for secrets and coins."

Inspired by the WiiWare game of the same name, MotoHeroz is available free via Appoday on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 only, so grab it while you can!
