Hands on with the iPod touch and iPod nano

The iPhone 5 was certainly the big star of Apple's September 12 event (sorry, Dave Grohl...), but the recently neglected iPod touch got a major makeover as well, and the iPod nano got its video-playing mojo back.

The 4th-gen iPod touch was introduced in September 2010, more than 2 years ago, with the iPhone 4's A4 processor and Retina display. But when the iPhone 4S came along, the iPod touch languished without an upgrade. Now the new fifth-gen iPod touch brings the feature set back in line with the iPhone. Both have the 4-inch, 1136x640 screen. Both got dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Both got the super-cool panorama feature for the rear camera, plus a better front camera with 1.2-megapixel stills and 720p video, and both have the new Lightning connector.

The iPod touch still lags in a few specs (its rear camera is 5 megapixels, while iPhone 5's is 8, and the iPod touch gets the A5 chip while the iPhone 5 boasts an A6). But in a few ways we like it better than iPhone 5. It's incredibly thin and light, down to just 3.10 ounces and 0.24 inch thick

Adobe Photoshop Touch 1.3 Adds Retina Display Support

While the Mac version of Photoshop is still waiting for Retina Display support, Adobe is making good on its promise to bring the same to the touch-enabled iPad app with a new version released on Wednesday.

Adobe has released Photoshop Touch 1.3, a new version of the company's $9.99 image editing app for the iPad. Available now from the App Store, the update brings full Retina Display support for the third-generation iPad and a host of other features.

In addition to Retina Display support for the new iPad, Adobe Photoshop Touch 1.3 now allows even higher-resolution images up to 12 megapixels -- a big improvement over the limitations of the original release.

Photoshop Touch is now localized in Russian and Brazilian Portuguese while including two new effects, Shred and Colorize. Adobe has made animation and scrolling in the organizer, tutorial browser and file picker smoother than previous versions as well.

Finally, Adobe Photoshop Touch includes a new gesture to toggle 100 percent view as well as three-finger tap for fit to screen, with new pixel nudging mode for precision movements and support for iCloud Photo Stream.

Adobe Photoshop Touch 1.3 is now available from the App Store for $9.99, and the update is free for existing users; the app requires and iPad 2 or higher running iOS 5.0 or later.

IBI - Multi-National Insurance & financial
trading company
Israel Brokerage & Investments (IBI), Ltd. A leading company listed in The Israeli Stock Exchange Market offers a broad range of investment management and trading. One of the biggest fears a company can experience is complete operation shut down during disaster. Last year, IBI Investments, experienced this exact situation when a floor of their building (below them) caught on fire. Fortunately all the workers were able to exit safely. Even more fortunately, the Tikal Networks IP-PBX and Crystal Call Center was hosted in a remote location. Tikal Networks developed a unique feature called "remote agent". This feature gives every user the ability to call from a remote location and use all the features available at their desk. This gives any user the ability to keep on working without any change in features or operations. To assure complete uninterrupted operation, IBI's IT management also took the precaution to host the telephony system off the premises. This way, no single event can prevent the operation from regular operation.

Logitech Touch Mouse M600 and Cube Review

by Florence Ion 0Comments And now for something(s) completely different

Call me crazy, but I’ve never been a big fan of the Apple mice. I’m a quick mover on the computer, constantly multitasking and clicking between different windows and Spaces, and even the wired Apple Mouse could never keep up with me. Logitech’s Anywhere MX is the only mouse that has been able to offer what I need, so I’m curious to see if the company’s two new offerings are just as effective.

The shiny, ergonomically shaped Touch Mouse M600 features a responsive touch surface that works the same as the Magic Mouse. Swipe down and your page follows. Swipe to the left, and Exposé shows the windows you have open. The scrolling behaves a lot like on your iPhone, but it works best if your mouse is free of fingerprint marks. Beyond that, I was disappointed that there weren’t more gestures available. The mouse is supposed to utilize Flow Scroll software to provide smoother scrolling for browsers, but it’s only available for PC users. As a result, there are no back and forward gestures or buttons for the Mac, which does not promote multitasking.

Smartphones, Media Tablets Stimulate Tripling of Touch Controller ICs

- Alert) iPhones and iPads, the use of touch screen displays in smartphones and media tablets is booming. As a result, the market for touch controller ICs have  almost tripled in size in less than five years.

A recent study completed by information and analytics provider IHS (News - Alert) iSuppli shows that shipments of touch controller ICs are set to reach 2.4 billion units in 2015, up from 865 million in 2010. The study predicts that this year alone, shipments will surge 28 percent to 1.7 billion units, with strong double-digit growth projected for the next two years before the rate of expansion slows slightly in 2015.

In a statement, said Randy Lawson, principal analyst for display and consumer electronics at HIS, “The expansion in touch controller IC shipments is due to the growing number of devices that employ touch technology.”

He added, “Apple almost single-handedly ignited the market for touch in 2007 when it introduced the iPhone (News - Alert), which featured a multi-touch screen based on a projected capacitive touch technology. Since the appearance of the iPhone, many other smartphone manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon by deploying sophisticated touch sensors for their products.”

IHS said that touch technology has branched out from being used mainly in mobile handsets to a wide array of consumer electronic items, expanding the aggregate universe of touch applications. Consequently, touch sensors now can be found in tablets, e-readers, all-in one PCs, portable media players, portable navigation devices, flat-panel TVs and monitors, handheld video game players, automotive applications, digital still cameras and digital picture frames.

Together, according to IHS, the number of devices and appliances using some form of touch controller IC is predicted to hit 1.06 billion units this year, nearly double from 514.9 million units only two years ago.

The study also suggests that capacitive touch screens like those first featured by Apple in its products made up 54 percent of the touch market in 2011. And it will remain as the dominant implementation for the space in the years to come, ahead of other touch-sensor technologies like infrared, optical, resistive and surface acoustic wave.

Last year, according to IHS, key suppliers of the touch controller ICs were Atmel Corp., Cypress Semiconductor Corp. and Synaptics (News
