Entropic Continues to Grow Networking, Satellite Business

- Alert), which is a supplier of high-speed connectivity solutions enabling emerging data center architectures

In July, Entropic acquired the direct broadcast satellite intellectual property and corresponding technologies from PLX Technology. Monk said the assets will strengthen the company’s long-term strategic position as the DBS market transitions to Sat-IP where satellite signals are converted to Internet Protocol and distributed over an IP network to any IP-enabled client device.

“We used to be known as a connectivity company. In addition to the networking, we provide direct broadcast satellite outdoor units so we provide solutions directly to the big satellite companies that allows them to bring the content from multiple satellites down a single cable,” Monk added. “We consider ourselves a settop company. That doesn’t meant we are trying to do everything in the settop world, but we are focused on the IP client side.”

Earlier this year, Entropic was named the market leader in the communications semiconductor space by The Linley Group, TMCnet reported. The company ranked number one in worldwide revenue of home networking application specific standard products, and is the market share leader in the home networking integrated circuit space, boasting 38 percent of the market.

The Google Apps vs. Office 365 Debate Continues

- Alert) has divided Office 365 onto six plans across three tiers, with another separate tier of two plans for “kiosk workers.” In totality, one can choose from eight different plans and this can get extremely confusing. This is completely different from the Google philosophy in which the company realizes the importance of the small business user and have kept things simpler to comprehend and more affordable.

Overall cloud experience

Making a move to Office 365 can be a little tricky, and customers are also not too happy Office 365’s dependence on SharePoint Online and the desktop version of Office 2010 in order to fully utilize Office Web Apps. Google Docs lets one utilize Drive or Office Cloud Connect, if they wish to use a hybrid cloud approach to document management. Thus, it is imperative that Microsoft makes the Office 365 less dependent on its desktop cousin.

Microsoft’s legacy background is an advantage

Office 365 also has certain benefits over Google Apps, especially in relation to Microsoft’s legacy background. With Office 365, Microsoft has capitalized on its knowledge of the landscape of enterprise IT.  Google Apps also lacks certain security features and in addition Shared Contacts API doesn’t do much since shared contacts (external global contacts) is missing completely in the Google Apps Control Panel.

Conclusion

According to Derrick Wlodarz, both Office 365 and Google Apps are worthy platforms. However, Google Apps does breathe in new energy in the cloud platform market, whereas Office 365 is still clinging to its desktop roots. Office 365 will appeal to a more niched group of Microsoft loyalists, whereas Google Apps could have more of a more mass appeal.

Email Hosting: The Microsoft Office 2010 vs Microsoft Office 365 Debate Continues

Resource Center How to add an autodiscover record in a DNS (Exchange 2010) How to check the size of a mailbox (Exchange 2010) How to configure a Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record (Exchange 2010) How to make an Offline Address Book and an Out of Office Assistant work (Exchange 2010) How to forward emails from an external domain to a Sherweb mailbox (Exchange 2010) Customer Testimonials Dale Coffing"I wanted to get in touch since I am a new customer and I really haven't had the need to contact you. I started a little over 4 months ago and I just wanted to say everything works. You all are a great example of how a service should work in that it simply works and I never need contact you. I know that seems like "so what?" but for the excellent pricing that SherWeb offers I must say I was a little hesitant to use you at first. Since I use a Windows Mobile 6 phone it was important to me to have an Exchange 2007 server so that the awesome new and additional features would be available to me on my phone. Thanks for being so good that I never need to call yet I know you are only phone call away if needed." Tim Tucholka"I just signed up with your Exchange and BlackBerry service, and WOW am I impressed! It took me less than 20 minutes to sign up, set my mx records, sign in and activate my BlackBerry sync. You guys really have a slick system setup here! Thanks!!"

The Radicati Group provides research on messaging and collaboration, security, email archiving, regulatory compliance, wireless technologies, Web services, identity management, instant messaging, unified communications, voice over IP, and more.

In the company’s latest study entitled, "Microsoft Exchange Server and Outlook Market Analysis, 2012-2016," The Radicati Group noted that despite the growing popularity of cloud-based computing, on-premise Microsoft Exchange Server deployments still currently account for the majority of Microsoft Exchange Server email hosting mailboxes worldwide.

The Radicati Group in the study provides an in-depth analysis of the penetration of the Microsoft Exchange Server messaging and collaboration platform and its email client Microsoft Outlook, in the enterprise on-premise and cloud-based Messaging and Collaboration market.

According to the study, by the end of 2016 the market share of on-premise Microsoft Exchange Server mailboxes is expected to show a significant decrease, mainly due to the continuing trend of outsourcing email to hosted and managed providers.

Microsoft's own Office 365 solution, in particular, is expected to drive most of this growth.

The report provides detailed installed base breakouts and four year growth forecasts for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook 2010, and Microsoft Outlook Web App (OWA).

In another study from the company titled, “Microsoft SharePoint Market Analysis, 2012-2016,”,it highlighted a comprehensive analysis of Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 as on-premises as well as cloud-based solutions, as well as Microsoft SharePoint Online offered as part of Microsoft Office 365.

The report provides extensive data regarding installed base, revenues, and four year forecasts broken out by version, region and business size for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and cloud-based Microsoft SharePoint solutions.
