Finally, imo.im Avails introduced a new messaging communication platform that’s compadible with Android and iOS devices. The new service will allow users to connect to other messaging services such as Google Talk, Facebook (News - Alert), and Skype by allowing for voice calls over the Wi-Fi or an Internet connection.
TMCnet Contributor, Calvin Azuri, explained “Leveraging the latest app from imo.im, users will now be able to make voice calls to their contacts via Wi-Fi, 3G, and 4G Internet connections. As a free voice calling app, the new offering has been designed to do away with associated cost of mobile minutes without compromising on the quality of the connection,” said Azuri. “Furthermore, the new app does not need data usage even when connected to Wi-Fi.”
Ralph Harik, CEO at imo.im agreed saying this new product will help users communication without increasing their mobile bills. “The availability of free voice calling for iPhone (News - Alert) users is a critical development for users looking to keep those valuable lines of communication open while saving on their mobile costs.”

Shoretel also updated its UC offering by releasing Shoretel 13. The upgrade allows users to use SIP trunking protocols to support room-based video conferencing on either laptops or desktops supporting the H.264 standard.
A number of new partnerships were revealed this week as well. Mitel licensed patents from VirnetX for 4G LTE (News - Alert) including a secure domain name registry and GABRIEL connection technology for secure UC. In addition, ZON chose the Genesys SIP Server to replace their current contact center platform.

In addition to releasing new products, several companies also formed new partnerships. Optimum Voice by Cablevision announced that its SIP trunking is now interoperable with Toshiba’s Business VoIP Telephone Systems. Also, ThinkGrid became a reseller for IntelePeer’s CoreCloud SIP trunking service, which will enable businesses to cut their time-to-deployment for applications like Microsoft Lync.
In the world of security, Chinese telecom reseller BOCO began offering WISeKey’s WISeID solution, which helps users to keep personal and proprietary information secure. The partners will also be developing a technology Center of Excellence, and WISeKey will help BOCO to establish an IT security practice on the Chinese mainland.

Monica Gleberman writes that enterprises are looking at communications in a completely different way and want to take full advantage of advances in technology and virtualized services. Law firm Irwin Mitchell recently selected InTechnology, a cloud provider, for its communications needs. The law firm said it will now lower costs by shifting from ISDN to SIP trunks. Irwin Mitchell has over 2,000 employees.
In another story, TMCnet’s Michelle Amodio reported that IntelePere launched two new cloud-based service bundles in the Unified Communications (News - Alert) (UC) market.
