Entropic Continues to Grow Networking, Satellite Business

In July, Entropic acquired the direct broadcast satellite intellectual property and corresponding technologies from PLX Technology. Monk said the assets will strengthen the company’s long-term strategic position as the DBS market transitions to Sat-IP where satellite signals are converted to Internet Protocol and distributed over an IP network to any IP-enabled client device.

“We used to be known as a connectivity company. In addition to the networking, we provide direct broadcast satellite outdoor units so we provide solutions directly to the big satellite companies that allows them to bring the content from multiple satellites down a single cable,” Monk added. “We consider ourselves a settop company. That doesn’t meant we are trying to do everything in the settop world, but we are focused on the IP client side.”

Earlier this year, Entropic was named the market leader in the communications semiconductor space by The Linley Group, TMCnet reported. The company ranked number one in worldwide revenue of home networking application specific standard products, and is the market share leader in the home networking integrated circuit space, boasting 38 percent of the market.
