Apple Launches iTunes Store in 12 Asian Countries

It may seem hard to believe for those of us who take it for granted, but there are still many parts of the world where the iTunes Store is not available. Thankfully, there are now 12 less places without it across Asia today.

Apple announced the launch of the iTunes Store in 12 countries across Asia on Thursday, which includes "an incredible selection of local and international music from all the major labels and thousands of independent labels."

Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan are the headliner countries where local artists such as Jay Chou, Girls Generation and Andy Lau now mix it up with international artists including ADELE, The Beatles and Jason Mraz, and world-renowned classical musicians including Lang Lang, Yo Yo Ma and Yuja Wang."

"Apple is bringing the iTunes Store to music fans in Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam," Apple also noted in its press release on Thursday. "Customers can also rent or purchase movies from the iTunes Store, with many available in stunning HD, from major studios including 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. The iTunes Store joins the revolutionary App Store which offers more than 650,000 apps to consumers in 155 countries."

Customers in these 12 Asian countries can now choose from over 20 million songs available to purchase and download via the iTunes Store, and will also enjoy the benefits of iTunes in the Cloud for downloading previously purchased content as well as the optional iTunes Match for storing a user's entire music library in the cloud.

New iTunes Store users in these countries will need iTunes 10.6.3 for Mac or Windows (a free download from Apple's website), and iTunes Store purchases require a valid credit card with a billing address in the country where they reside.
