Sprint Q2 2012 Not So Rosy, iPhone Sales Hang in There at Nearly 1.5 Million

By now we've heard quarterly results from almost everyone, but Sprint is saving the best for last -- probably because they have little to shout from the rooftops about yet again.

Sprint has released its Q2 2012 financials (PDF link) and the company has again posted an insanely large loss of $1.4 billion against $7.3 billion in total sales. That looks even more grim than it sounds when you consider the company lost $847 million in the same quarter last year.

But the company is choosing to look on the bright side, boasting about its mere 1.69 percent churn rate -- a record low for the third-place carrier.

Sprint Endorses Mozilla's Plan for HTML5-Based Smartphone OS

The report brings additional comments from Mozilla that indicate that the new OS will allow HTML5 applications to access the underlying capabilities of phones in the same way native applications could do earlier.

"Due to the optimization of the platform for entry-level smartphones and the removal of unnecessary middleware layers,” wrote Palenchar, “mobile operators will have the ability to offer richer experiences at a range of price points including at the low end of the smartphone price range, helping to drive adoption across developing markets."

Could Apple be getting kickbacks from travel agents? It might appear so, given how the company announced ticket availability for WWDC 2012 in the wee hours of the morning today for West Coast developers, which pretty much ensures the event will be packed with plenty of out of towners come June 11. While you mull that conspiracy theory, let’s recap the news for this wonderful Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

Sprint Says Unlimited Data Will Remain, Even with 4G LTE iPhone

Cnet is reporting that Sprint has cemented its unlimited data pledge to customers, and that will even extend to 4G LTE, even if the next iPhone launches later this year with the faster data. While AT&T and Verizon continue to curtail their customers with capped data plans claiming the traffic could buckle their respective networks, Sprint is forging its own path -- at least until all that HD streaming grinds things to a halt. "I'm not anticipating the unlimited plan would change by that point," explains Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. "That's our distinctive differentiator." God bless you, sir -- here’s hoping you might get hired as CEO of one of the two bigger networks and carry the same gumption with you.

WWDC 2012 Sells Out in Under 2 Hours

Well, that was fast. Within two hours of our news post this morning announcing ticket availability for Apple’s 2012 Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco June 11-15, early bird developers snapped up every available ticket -- leaving none for those on the West Coast, who were likely sleeping when the announcement went live at 5:30am PST. Sprint Introduces Voice Peering to the US with EVO 4G LTE

- Alert), 1X Advanced supercharges the most basic, 2G part of Sprint's network, which happens to be the part that handles the voice calls. According to Qualcomm, 1X Advanced lets a cell site handle up to four times the number of voice callers it currently does, and lets cell sites extend voice coverage 70 percent wider than on previous 1X technology.

Sprint's Network Vision brings more than just HD Voice, it will also bring LTE (News - Alert). Although Network Vision, LTE and 1X-Advanced will start appearing on Sprint's network in mid-2012, Sparks said that the final missing pieces to enable HD Voice will appear in late 2012.
