TMCnet SIP Phones Week in Review

Major announcements in the SIP Phones sector this past week came from Panasonic (News - Alert) Corp., Panasonic System Networks, Toshiba America Information Systems, and AT&T.


Expanding market for mobile devices and rising requirement for higher data transfer speeds has prompted consumer electronics giant Panasonic Corp. to develop a new chipset for multi-gigabit millimeter wave wireless communications. As per the report, the chipset features a new baseband processing architecture that reduces power consumption to less than 1 Watt, and helps establish stable communication between different devices, based on the WiGig Alliance (News - Alert) specifications. The chipset also includes an extra radio packet processing block, speeding the realization of high-definition or HD video data sharing and streaming applications for mobile devices.

TMCnet also reported that SIP phones provider Panasonic celebrated interoperability with Centile (News - Alert) Telecom. Panasonic System Communications Company Europe (PSCEU) announced certification for interoperability of the KX-UT series of SIP telephones with Centile’s Istra platform. To achieve this capability, Panasonic’s KX-UT series had to undergo a rigorous set of interoperability tests, encompassing basic functionality, advanced calling features, and automatic provisioning with the Centile Istra solution. According to the report, the certification guarantees that the phone can deliver maximum usability and productivity for end users and low-maintenance service delivery.

Recently, Panasonic expanded the KX-UT line with the addition of KX-UT670 SmartDesk phone and plans to add another SIP phone to the family in a few weeks.

In his column, senior editor Peter Bernstein highlighted reasons why small to medium sized businesses (SMBs) are moving their voice communications out of the telecom closets and into the cloud. Based on data supplied by Panasonic, the senior editor confirmed that time-to-deployment and lower cost were the biggest and most obvious drivers of cloud-based solutions.
