Facebook Rolling Out Save for Later Feature to Mobile, Desktop
While it's not exactly a direct rival for the likes of Instapaper or Pocket, social networking giant Facebook is rolling out a new feature that allows both mobile and desktop users to save stories for later reading.
The Verge is reporting that Facebook has begun rolling out the ability to save wall posts and other stories for later consumption, a step toward the features popularized by "read later" services such as Instapaper, Pocket and Readability.
"New! Press and hold anywhere on a story to save it for later," a pop-up in the iOS app reads once a user's account has added the feature. "Click Saved in your Favorites when you're ready to view it."
Thankfully, Facebook makes it clear that saved stories are private, so you won't have to worry about saving something embarrassing and having it shared with everyone on your friends list. Also, saved stories appear across all devices, be they mobile or desktop.
Speaking of desktop, the feature is also making its way to full-fledged computers, where it will appear as a small "Save" link right alongside other options such as Like, Comment and Share.
We're not seeing the feature appearing yet on our end, but it should be rolling out to everyone over the next few days.
