Qualcomm Takes Top Slot in Telematics Study, MiX Making Up Ground Quickly

- Alert) scored so highly in this latest study. The field is still quite spread out, as Qualcomm holds just six percent of the market. That is still a great deal larger than the company’s closest competitors.

ABI did note one up-and-coming company that is still in the back of the pack, but making progress. MiX Telematics finished seventh in the recent survey but ABI is labeling the company as “one to watch” thanks to how quickly it actually is climbing up the charts.

One ABI Research analysts was bullish on MiX in a recent press release saying, “Having recently moved beyond its South African home market into the Middle East, Latin America, and the United States, while also expanding its European base, the company’s regional coverage is improving. This, in addition to the fact that features such as real-time traffic and turn-by-turn navigation are now finding their way into MiX’s solutions means that the company is sure to rank even higher next time around.”

Amazon's CloudSearch Aims to Break New Ground in Cloud-based Searching

- Alert) AppEngine, Amazon’s EC2 has set the bar high. Now with advanced cloud searching, users can access faceting and fielded search, relevance tracking and stop words. CloudSearch customers interface with the technology manually using the AWS management console or programmatically through CloudSearch APIs.

According to Amazon, CloudSearch is flexible enough to provide search for a wide range of applications. Given the significant investment being made in cloud computing by many of the world’s leading companies, it is possible that this new search function will be a true differentiator. Searches are performed using search instances, of which there are three sizes (small, large and extra large), which range in price from $0.12 to $0.68 per hour. As a customer's data grows, CloudSearch can automatically scale to up to 50 search instances, a number that Amazon says will increase over time.
