Trustwave Provides Security for the Cloud Named Leader in 2012 Forrester Report

Each major transition that IT has gone through over time has led to an increase in the need for efficient security. The major shifts have been things like mainframes to client-server networks and more recently to Web applications. Today, the cloud’s shared computing process presents another major change because it eliminates the security perimeter present in most on-premise computing systems, which has always protected enterprises.

Currently, there’s also a level of unrestricted access that introduces new opportunities for cyber-criminals—for example, smart device application downloading presents anytime/anywhere data access and social media collaboration. Each of these present new and significant security challenges. Now, there is a need to balance the benefits of the cloud and the consumerization of IT while minimizing the risks. To that end, Trustwave, a global provider of cloud-based compliance and information security solutions, announced it has been named a “Leader” in the March 2012 “Forrester (News - Alert) Wave: Managed Security Services: North America, Q1 2012” report.

According to Leo Cole, chief marketing officer at Trustwave, “We believe that recognition as a Leader in the Forrester Wave for Managed Security Services validates the innovation and work we have done to reduce the complexity of protecting data and help organizations focus on what they do best: running their business -- while we run their security. Unlike many managed security service providers who deliver just foundational security, we provide our customers with higher-value, unified managed security solutions spanning compliance, application, network and data security solutions -- enhanced by Trustwave SpiderLabs' threat intelligence.”

Companies need to be more proactive about security, such as identifying critical IT services that support sensitive data and understanding vulnerabilities of those systems. It’s more effective for enterprises to anticipate, close up, and protect vulnerabilities in advance than to rectify the problem after security has been breached.

Some of the vendor evaluation criteria for being included in the Forrester report included a complete suite of managed security services, a strong presence in North America, significant interest from Forrester customers and substantial annual managed security services revenues, among other requirements.

While there is executive awareness of necessary security and attacks related to cloud, social media, and mobile devices, cyber-criminals have found more surface vectors and increased opportunities for attacks. Closing those vulnerabilities is a key goal for Trustwave which has one of the industry's most comprehensive security portfolios. The company provides a unique approach with comprehensive solutions that include its TrustKeeper portal and other proprietary security solutions.
