Each of the brand-new controllers will have a feature Microsoft is calling the “transforming” D-pad along with the rest of your typical controller features. Rory Young, writer for Neoseeker, said he thinks these new controllers set are a nice addition to the Xbox 360.
“To be fair, these are some very nice looking controllers…It’s great having a variety of options that fit your style and personality when it comes to controllers and accessories, though the best often end up in special editions,” said Young.
Although it has been reported that the colors will be red, white, and blue, Nelson did report that the colors might vary from the official photos that have been released. According to the report, the colors might change slightly from region to region. However, Xbox 360 officials said that no matter where you live you would have the ability to purchase the controller. Depending on the availability, users might have to resort to third-party retailers such as Amazon or Best Buy (News - Alert) to see if you are able to preorder the color you want ahead of time to prevent it from being sold out.
Mike Norris, writer for Gadgetsteria, said that initially he wasn’t excited about the new controllers until the images were released.
“What’s one more thing your Xbox 360 could use? Bigger hard drive: nope. Face new faceplate: try again. How about new Chrome’d out controller? While it doesn’t seem all that exciting, after seeing pictures of the new “Special Edition Chrome Series” Xbox 360 controllers Microsoft is set to release this summer, we are actually pretty intrigued,” said Norris. “The chrome/bling look is arguably not for everyone…but try as we might, we can’t help but continue to stare at that shiny red controller. It’s just so pretty.”
Microsoft said it expects the preorders to become available over the next few weeks, while retail stores are expected to start selling the controllers beginning mid-May.
