“Conferencing is how business is getting done today.” That quote comes from Greg Plum (News - Alert), the vice president of Channel Development for SmartMeeting. This week, SmartMeeting released a new conferencing solution that can accommodate up to 1,000 participants, facilitating toll, toll-free and HD VoIP calls as well as screen sharing. This low-cost option also features a meeting “wall,” on which conference call participants can post pertinent contact information, files or links.
Also this week, LoopUp released the results of a study indicating that 23 percent of time during a conference call is wasted by technical difficulties as well as other distractions. That wasted time, according to LoopUp, costs U.K. businesses approximately $6.2 billion each year.
LoopUp’s solution to the problem provides an interface that allows callers to schedule meetings via Outlook, web and smartphone. The application can call participants at the phone number of their choice when the meeting is scheduled to begin, and on-screen lists will tell participants exactly who is on the call. If background noise is part of the distraction, then participants can use a button on the control panel to filter out the distraction.
